History

When Target announced that it would be closing its Mondawmin Mall location in early 2018, community members and local leaders were shocked and disappointed. The store, which opened in 2008, brought people from across the city to the Mondawmin neighborhood, and catered to the community’s needs.

The space sat vacant for over four years, before Whiting-Turner CEO and Touchpoint Baltimore Co-founder Tim Regan announced his intentions to purchase the former Target store and turn it into a community hub with resources to help revitalize Mondawmin.

Regan met with members of the Greater Mondawmin Coordinating Council to determine just how the 127,000 square foot space would be utilized.

“I believe strongly that investment in underserved communities can have a meaningful impact on those who reside there. The Mondawmin Mall touches thousands of people every day and is therefore an ideal location to develop a platform where members of the community can launch businesses, organizations, programs and collaborations to realize the vision they have for their neighborhoods,” Regan said shortly after the announcement.

“The mall’s standing as a longtime business and community hub uniquely positions it as an anchor for future development and larger economic growth throughout West Baltimore. We believe this essential investment will demonstrate the value of others to make additional and complementary investments in the area over time.”
